Dome Insulation

Once the refractory cement is cured.  It is time for the dome insulation.  But prior to that I filled the gaps between the arch and the dome with more refractory cement.

I had left about 3 inches of space between the firebricks and the edge of base for insulation.  I should have left about 4 inches, but I did not want the oven to be too small.  For the first and the second layer of insulation I used 10:1 ratio of Vermiculite and Portland Cement.  Third and the final layer I used 5:1 ration of Vermiculite and Portland Cement.  I waited 24 hours between each layer for it to cure.
